Why We Are Measuring Our Impact

Well since this is our first impact report, it will serve as the baseline understanding of the interaction between income-generating individuals and our partner-affiliated programming. This very interaction demonstrates to us whether their needs are being met in relation to self-reliance. Depending on the results, we can change our program to better assist what the community needs. We want to do what is best for our community and the data helps us establish what exactly that is.

This being said, don’t miss out on our Impact Report 2020! Your support is what has made it possible to impact the lives of so many people. Be sure to check out and circulate on how this small, local, women-owned business is making a difference in the lives of so many. This is only the beginning for us.

As a social enterprise, our mission is at the center of our model. We base our entire business strategy on how we can achieve the most good for the refugee community everywhere. For anyone who caught our last Sips with Sitti episodes knows we have some exciting news. We are coming out with our first Impact Report! We want our brand to be as transparent as possible when it comes to the Jerash Camp community and our efforts to promote self-reliance. This report gives you a chance to truly examine how much impact our social enterprise has done in the community backed up by real data. We understand that this data is what will help us modify our program to better serve the interest and needs of our community.

What is RSRI and why are they important?

The Refugee Self Reliance Initiative is defined as “a multi-stakeholder collaboration that promotes opportunities for refugees around the world to become self-reliant and achieve a better quality of life, while simultaneously advocating for the full enjoyment of their rights” These collaborative efforts are what also brought you the tool being used to assess our impact. So, the RSRI is a pretty important name when it comes to self-reliance initiatives for refugees. Our entire social enterprise is based around this idea of creating creative approaches to help reduce the poverty rate amongst refugees. With the help of RSRI, we will be able to understand better how to help out the community.

So, How Did We Measure Impact?

We used the Self-Reliance Index (SRI) which is the FIRST global tool to measure the progress of refugee households towards self reliance. It assesses progress through 12 different domains: Housing, Food, Education, Healthcare, Health Status, Safety, Employment, Financial Resources, Assistance, Debt, Savings, and Social Capital. The score ranges from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest level of self-reliance. Although before even the administration of the tool, our team had to complete and receive a certification in the Self-Reliance Index and KOBO toolbox. This wasn’t your typical training session, where you went through the motions. The training process was a place for open discussion between facilitators and trainees. It was through this discussion could we curate the tool to be better suitable to Jerash Camp and Sitti team members.
