Welcome Gaza Gala Recap: A Night of Unity and Purpose

As we reach 17 months of witnessing the most gruesome crimes against our Palestinian brothers and sisters, we now have the opportunity to directly support the survivors who are now here with us in Canada. Across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), approximately 250 families have arrived from Gaza, each carrying stories of resilience, loss, and hope. These families have endured unimaginable hardships, and their journey to Canada marks the beginning of a new chapter—one where we, as a community, can stand beside them and help them rebuild their lives.

The Welcome Gaza Gala, hosted by Sitti Social Enterprise in collaboration with Luxe Affairs, was a heartfelt response to this urgent need of showing the new community of survivors that they will be loved, heard and supported in this new journey they’re embarking on. Held in Brampton, Ontario, this event was not just a celebration of culture and solidarity but also a powerful call to action to unite our community for a purpose. It brought together individuals, families, non-profit organizations, and advocates who are committed to making a tangible and long-lasting difference in the lives of these families.

An Evening of Solidarity and Meaning

The gala was a profound testament to the power of community and shared purpose. From the moment guests stepped into the venue, the atmosphere filled with a sense of togetherness and determination—the night was filled with heartfelt speeches, captivating cultural performances, and determination overall a healing environment that inspired both generosity and hope. Every element of the evening was designed to shine a light on our community’s collective mission to uplift survivors, youth and families from refugee backgrounds.

One of the most impacting highlights was hearing firsthand accounts from those whose lives have been completely changed since the start of the genocide. These stories served as a powerful reminder of why community building is so essential— we have reached a point in this time of history where we must consider both our people back home in Gaza, and our survivors with us here.

Nothing could top seeing the reaction of the children of survivors who were filled with joy and happiness while spending time meeting new people, participating in dabke, smiling, and freely celebrating their culture.

The Impact of Your Support

Thanks to the incredible generosity of attendees, sponsors, and volunteers, the Welcome Gaza Gala created an endless amount of opportunities for our refugee families who were not aware of these support systems to begin with. These opportunities will help provide essential resources, such as housing, education, and employment opportunities, ensuring that these families can begin to heal and thrive in their new home.

How You Can Continue to Help

While the gala was a significant milestone, the work is far from over. With approximately 250 families now in the GTA, the need for support remains urgent. Here are a few ways you can make a difference:

1. Donate: We heard multiple stories of survivors coming to Canada with no family and no assistance, trying to survive here on their own. Your contributions help provide critical resources to individuals and families in need.

2. Volunteer: Offer your time and skills to support survivour programs and initiatives. Reach out to help@sittisoap.com to find out how you can support.

3. Spread the Word: Oftentimes, we forget that we have survivors and families that need our help here. As we continue to fight for justice in Palestine, we must ensure that we also fight for our Palestinian survivors here with us. Share the mission to support survivors across the GTA with your network to help amplify their impact.

A Message of Gratitude

None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our partners, sponsors, and the entire community. To our event sponsors, Luxe Affairs, Penny Appeal, The National Zarakat Foundation, IDRF, Live Your Life Therapy, Syrian-Canadian Foundation, Smile Foundation, Jumpstart Refugee Talent, Native Touch, Natalia Mariana Photography, and Nomz, your support and contributions brought this night to life. To our incredible volunteers, and everyone who attended the gala—thank you for your unwavering support and commitment to making a difference.

As we move forward, let us continue to stand in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters, both here and in Palestine. Together, we can create a future defined not by loss but by hope, determination, and empowerment.
