Why Sitti’s Olive Oil Soap changed the way I look at SOAP!

Ever since having my two kids, I’ve been more conscious of the ingredients in the items I purchase and use in my home. Of course, like many new moms, I started searching for brands that were consciously made, had no harsh chemicals, artificial scents or could possibly have a negative impact on my children’s well-being. From their lotions, diaper creams, shampoo, and conditioner, I was careful in buying the right products.

Since launching Sitti Soap, our home mainly only uses Sitti’s Olive Oil soap both for day-to-day handwashing and also for shower and bath time with the kids. I’ve purchases other soaps and other products (which I won’t disclose for the purpose of brevity) but I’ve always felt Sitti’s Olive Oil soap is just something else. It could be my bias, but I’m confident it’s the best Olive Oil Soap out there.

So much so, that I’m so keen on purchasing other soap products, in particular, Olive Oil soap whenever I’m out in the market. You’ll find me at the Soap section at Whole Foods, or Trader Joes, or our local farmers market. I’m always interested to compare and see how our soap stands next to what is out there. I’ve definitely seen some incredibly amazing brands that have produced some beautiful and incredibly amazing smelling soaps. (Note: Sitti Natural and Loofah Soaps are unscented and have no added fragrances).

In a recent visit to Costco in Canada, I noticed they were selling bulk olive oil soap in the Bath and Beauty section that had on their packaging: “Made with Olive Oil.” I was quickly intrigued and wanted to try it out. For the purpose of this writing, I won’t disclose the name of the brand but will say it was ‘Made in the USA’.

After purchasing the bulk soap from Costco, I took it home and opened up the box. It had a strong fragrance and had a light green color. The packaging noted the following points which I liked, they were: a) Paraben-Free; b) had no animal testing or animal ingredients; c) was gentle and hypoallergenic; d) was biodegradable and e) had a high concentration of organic extra virgin Olive oil and Aloe Vera. It all sounded great! The texture was soft and it looked like it was a produced by a Triple Mill Soap Factory and not handmade.

A closer look at their ingredient list, I was quick to make the distinction between this Olive Oil Soap and Sitti Soaps.

Below are the ingredients this Bar of Soap contained:

Ingredients: Sodium Olivate*, Sodium Oleate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Stearate, Sodium Palmitate, Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Parfum, Sodium Chloride, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Yellow 10 (CI 47005), Green 5 (CI 61570), Iron Oxides (CI 77499).

*Made from the Saponification of Organic Olive Oil.

I quickly turned to our Sitti Olive Oil soap’s ingredient list:

Sitti Ingredient List: Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Filtered Water, Lye (Sodium Hydroxide).

Olive Oil Sourced from Local Farms in Jordan.

The comparison doesn’t come close to the purity and naturalness of or bar of soap. Our Natural and Loofah Bars are gentle, hypoallergenic and free from fragrances, colors, alcohol, parabens, and dyes. Our soap bars are free from coconut oil or palm oil or any other added oils, free from colorants, free from preservatives, and free from chemical additives. Sitti Soap is also completely biodegradable and environmentally friendly.

Ingredients aside, I even tried to put the soap to the test by using it in the shower. The scent was so overwhelming that I actually felt nauseated using the soap bar in the shower, the lather was nice, however, I felt my skin felt extra dry after using the soap. I definitely would not continue using it and have switched back to my Sitti Loofah Soap bar in the shower. (Now, what should I do with all the extra soaps from this other brand?)

Essentially, when comparing the alternate soap bar to Sitti Soap bar, knowing that we source high quality and premium olive oil from Jordan that is directly used (not diluted or mixed with any other type of soap), I am certain our quality olive oil is one of the best in the market.
