Maramiya or Sage is an aromatic herb native to the lands surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. The Latin term is known as, ‘Salvia Salvatrix’ translates to ‘Sage the Saviour,’ referring to its healing properties and health benefits.

Traditionally, our grandmothers and mothers would offer ‘Black Tea with Sage’ or ‘Shai bil’ Maramiya’ after meals to help assist indigestion, heartburn and to calm the body. Sage culturally has been used to aid in menstrual upset stomach and cramping, insomnia and even used as a gargle for gingivitis and a sore throat.

To make sage tea, try adding one tablespoon of dried leaves to a mug. Fill the cup with almost-boiling water. Cover and let it steep for a few minutes. Strain the tea to remove the leaves. Overheating and over-steeping the herb will result in a bitter taste.

Our Jordanian Dried Sage is made with love in the Jerash Refugee Camp in Jordan.
