International Women's Day 2023
#IWD2023 #EmbraceEquity #EducateEmployEmpower #SittiEducates
Sitti is celebrating International Women’s Day this year by Choosing to Challenge consumers to be more mindful of their purchasing power and how they impact women’s economic empowerment on a global scale.
Facts and Figures:
"Women’s economic empowerment is central to realizing women’s rights and gender equality."
Choose to Challenge (IWD 2023), and join us in our mission to:
What does it mean to be a “conscious consumer?” How do we challenge (and change) the story of a male-dominated global economy where profit is for the wealthy one percent, instead of the majority and the marginalized? Let’s learn more and challenge this together…
Educate: Sips with Sitti
Sitti Social Enterprise co-founders, Jackie and Noora, speak with honesty and vulnerability about critical topics for the everyday, mindful consumer. Join them on Instagram Live and IGTV while they dive into the issues that we should all be talking about and acting on:
- Women “making it” in the pandemic and post-pandemic economy
- Artisans whose refugee experience informs, but does not define, their story
- Living on a real budget: how people live on less than $5 dollars a day, and how we can change that
- Mental and financial well-being in a consumerist society
- ...and more, plus special guests along the way!
“Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are the most powerful weapons.” - Malala Yousafzai
Employ: Limited Edition Gift Box
1 box = educational attainment + opportunities for income generation and economic participation
On International Women’s Day (IWD), Sitti, Millie, and Hopes for Women in Education are reintroducing the Limited Edition Gift Box to raise awareness of the importance of education for women and girls and to work towards Sitti’s goal of funding university-level scholarships with Hopes for Women in Education. These scholarships build critical pathways for women to pursue their career goals. In addition to educational scholarships, Hopes for Women provides support and mentorship for their scholars to become independent women in pursuit of their career aspirations.
Empower: Share your Story
Check out several of our collaborations with storytellers within the Sitti global community:
- Palestinian-American artist, chef, and reiki instructor, Nadia Irshaid Gilbert (blog article, Instagram takeover: posts of February 22, 23, 24, and 25).
- Sitti’s IWD 2020 “Focus on Her” series, including the stories of Hopes for Women scholarship recipient and professional translator/interpreter, Rawan Abu Hassoun, among other global women voices.
- Sitti hosted The Narrative Projects initiative to bring the tools of photography and documentary storytelling to the Hopes-Sitti Women’s Centre. Five women embarked on a 3-month journey to document the stories of their families and community in Jerash Refugee Camp.
